Disabled Owned Small Business Christmas Gift Guide

Welcome to The World in My Words Disabled Owned Small Business Gift Guide!

I am excited to share these nine small businesses with you all. Shopping local and with small businesses is something that has been encouraged a lot more over the last few years and this year in particular.

There are many small businesses created by chronically ill/disabled people, whether they’ve chosen to start a small business or needed to due to limited employment options. I love to support small businesses for a multitude of reasons including ethical and environmental but being able to support the Disabled Community is very important to me.

Many of these small business owners do so much to normalise disability and advocacy whether you see this specifically in their business or behind the scenes which along with their fantastic talent and business is another reason to support them.

Without further ado…

Bron’s Vegan Brownies

Hi I’m Bron, head baker and chief product developer and I run Bron’s Vegan Brownies with the support of my Mum Elaine who managed the businesses on my behalf due to the popularity of our bakes.

Eleven small baking trays stack decoratively around and on top of another. You can see blondies and brownies in each tray. Some decorated with cherries and icing. Some chocolate with chocolate chips. Others with lotus biscuits, bourdon biscuits, party rings or oreos on top.

We began in January 2019 after a couple of years of experimenting to find the perfect brownie recipe. Everyone of our flavours was repeatedly tested on our lovely volunteers. We are now also able to offer blondies and cookies along with special editions and seasonal boxes.

All our boxes are designed to fit through your letter box so you never miss a delivery.

Two small boxes of 6 brownies. There are a mixture of brownies in each box including blondies, oreo, jammie dodgers, peanuts, lotus and party rings. Above between the boxes is a thank you note with a doodle design.

We also donate £1 from every box of 6 full size brownies/blondies to Action for M.E. a charity which hopes to “tackle ignorance, injustice and neglect for people whose lives have been stolen by M.E.”

You can purchase a box of brownies for yourself or a loved one here.

The Flow Angel

My name is Angel and I’m an abstract fluid artist based in the central Florida area. I love experimenting with different pouring styles, techniques and color palettes. If you have an idea or inspiration for a piece, I’d be happy to help bring the vision to life. While I am by no means a Picasso level professional, I take pride in my work as I continue to learn and explore this wonderful world of art.

PauseButton Creations

I started my business when my mom first got diagnosed with breast cancer. I was about 16 and my dad recently left the family. At the same age, I got diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and also had to have major surgery to get an organ removed. My mom was working two jobs, so I wanted to start something on the side to help raise money.

A canvas of abstract flow arts with blue, black, gold colours is being held up so you can see the blue sky and trees behind it.

Art is an amazing way to help me release stress and trauma. I have also written a book that is available on my site called The Views Are Worth It: Photography and Poetry Collection’ which has poems and photographs from when I was a teenager. I’ve had my business through college! I hope to one day go to graduate school to help others who suffer with bipolar disorder.

A wooden bench with leaves on it. On top sits two books stacked on top of each other. They are blue showing a picture of a lake, the mountains and is titled the views are worth it.

I have started to make personalised keyrings and I am now selling them on my very own little shop on Etsy.

A table top with three key rings on. There is an S, I and O in pink blue ombre.

At the moment I have two varieties, I make coloured ones now these can be single colour or two colours together. I also make clear ones with glitter in, again you can pick one or two colours to go in your keyrings.

I hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know these small businesses as much as I have.

I do believe that there is an element of privilege that comes with supporting small or local businesses in terms of cost however, this is for good reason and these are the types of companies I wish to support.

Whether making a purchase from one of these small businesses or any small business it costs nothing to follow them on social media or share them on yours.

If you purchase from any of these small businesses for yourself, a lockdown pick me up gift or as part of your Christmas shopping I would love to hear your thoughts and I know they would too.
